To honour the generosity of those who donated during the COVID-19 lockdowns, “The Honourable, We Applaud” immortalises their names amongst the rich history of the Darlinghurst Theatre Company, and the performances they supported. Featuring a digital rendition of the Eternity Playhouse’s stained glass windows, the unique features of the heritage listed site are weaved into the creation of the video piece. Each donor receives their own book, with their name written upon its spine, in honour of their financial contribution; the sizes reflecting the amounts pledged. The atmospheric soundscape moves through the local Darlinghurst environment, to the applause of the theatre as the curtain comes down. I wanted to create a piece that would work in tandem with the site, both protecting its heritage listing, as well as using a medium inherent to the theatre — video art, sound, and projection.
